Tough times may call for tough measures, but this does not have to be so obvious.
Sometimes you can just wear a silk glove (read, reduced costs, improved schedule predictability, easy to apply processes, improved team and customer satisfaction) on the iron fist (read, the models, standards and regulations, sometimes regarded as useless limitations).
Sure thing, most of the changes don't go smoothly and sometimes special effort is needed to persuade the team, even trick them into using better tools. Still the team commitment is of utmost importance.
Besides internal difficulties, we face an unstable environment and this is affecting our course of actions, as we have to continuously adapt to new emerging problems.
We may be a small company but we are complex. CMMI with the proven practices, is of real help in order to implement effective (adequate to accomplish their purpose) and efficient (involving least waste of time and effort)processes.
Completing maturity level 2 implementation has been for us the beginning of a new undertaking for improving our processes. One useful trump is that we can make use of up-to-date technology in the implementation of maturity level 3 successful practices. Esfera, our new software, still under improvement, undergoing an integration process with other tools we use, might not be the ideal tool but represents our platform for managing day-to-day processes, dealing with exceptions, monitoring projects, it is friendly and easy to adapt to a dynamic company’s business culture and approach.
