GMC Software Technology is a global company (classified as SMEs), headquartered in Switzerland, which software development center is located in Czech Republic. GMC delivers end-to-end software solutions for designing, composing, and producing personalized print and electronic customer communications. 8 years ago GMC decided to undertake a process improvement initiative. GMC started with ISO 9001 and CMM, later on GMC take into CMMI.
Their main motivation was a business one i.e. to get more professional in the way software is developed and not as primary objective to get “certified” with a given maturity level. They defined quantitative goals to achieve in terms of quality of delivery and time to delivery (maximum allowed delay). This presentation will focus on GMC journey towards process improvement, the success factors, issues encountered and results in terms of quality and time to delivery. GMC used the continuous representation of the CMMI Model.
They focus on some key process areas to their business e.g. Project Planning, Project Monitoring and Control, Requirements Management, Validation, and Configuration Management among others A Scampi A was recently performed where some Process Areas were rating at capability level 3. From the business perspective GMC has experienced a 40% average growth of revenue the last two years
