Abstract

Agile software development was largely adopted in the last few years. Scrum, Extreme Programming, Test Driven Development are methods of work helping teams to develop quality software in an effective manner.

Even if Agile practices are very useful, scaling them at the company level is a serious challenge. What if changes you make are not the ones adding value in the process? Good metrics help improvements, but are not everything. 

Lean thinking help us to make improvements in the areas where problems lie and to make development process more effective. This tutorial focuses on how to improve processes by optimizing the whole, reducing waste and value stream mapping. After a short introduction in Lean, we will analyze some examples of how value stream mapping lead to significant productivity improvement and how you can reduce waste in your own processes. You will learn how Lean is one effective way in organizational change towards higher quality, lower cost process and better results.
